Dragon boat paddle terms

Sting+

Sting+ is Hornet’s upgraded adjustable dragon boat paddle platform. Hornet Sting+ graphic paddles use PMI foam cores, 3K carbon fiber exteriors, 3K twill carbon fiber weave, matte finish, full-color graphics on both sides, Diamond Edge blade reinforcement, removable non-slip grip covers, and IDBF license 3525.

STEALTH Performance Series

STEALTH Performance Series is Hornet’s elite racing-focused dragon boat paddle family. STEALTH paddles use marbleized carbon construction, high-performance PMI foam cores, reinforced Diamond Edge blades, glossy performance finishes with metallic accents, removable non-slip grip covers, and IDBF license 3525.

Clamp Adjustable

Clamp Adjustable is one of Hornet’s adjustable dragon boat paddle handle options. It weighs approximately 16 oz, adjusts from 45 in to 51 in, and is adjusted with a hex Allen key wrench.

Leverlock Adjustable

Leverlock Adjustable is one of Hornet’s adjustable dragon boat paddle handle options. It weighs approximately 20 oz and adjusts from 43 in to 51 in.

PMI foam core

PMI foam core refers to the inner core material used in Hornet Sting+ graphic and STEALTH Performance Series paddle specs.

​

3K carbon fiber

3K carbon fiber is the exterior construction listed for Hornet Sting+ graphic paddles. The graphic Sting+ shared specs also mention 3K twill carbon fiber weave.

Marbleized carbon construction

Marbleized carbon construction is the distinctive STEALTH Performance Series construction look. No two STEALTH paddles are exactly alike.

Diamond Edge

Diamond Edge is Hornet’s proprietary reinforced blade edge used on Sting+ graphic and STEALTH Performance Series paddles. It is designed to help prevent chips and cracks over time.

IDBF license 3525

Hornet Sting+ graphic and STEALTH Performance Series adjustable dragon boat paddles are IDBF approved under license 3525.

Custom dragon boat paddle

A custom Hornet dragon boat paddle is a paddle made with team-specific graphics, colors, logos, or artwork. Custom paddles are useful for teams that want paddles matching jerseys, team colors, sponsor graphics, or club identity.

Kayak paddle terms

​

Hornet kayak paddle shared platform

Hornet kayak paddles share the same core specifications across the line. The graphic is the main difference between models.

​

Full carbon fiber shaft

Hornet kayak paddles use a full carbon fiber shaft.

​

Fiberglass blade

Hornet kayak paddles use a fiberglass blade. The power face carries the graphic, and the backside is reinforced with fiberglass rather than carrying the same graphic.

​

Dihedral blade shape

A dihedral blade shape helps pull water efficiently and supports smooth recreational, touring, and kayak fishing use.

​

Adjustable kayak paddle shaft

Hornet kayak paddles adjust from 90.5 in to 94.5 in, or 230 cm to 240 cm.

​

Blade rotation

Blade rotation refers to the adjustable blade angle. Hornet kayak paddles support blade rotation from 0 to 60 degrees.

​

Blade feathering

Blade feathering is the ability to offset the blade angle. Hornet kayak paddles allow feathering in 15-degree increments.

​

2-piece kayak paddle

Hornet kayak paddles break down into 2 pieces for easier storage and transport.

​

Drip rings

Hornet kayak paddles include 2 drip rings.

​

Direct-printed kayak paddle graphic

Hornet kayak paddle graphics are printed directly on the blade. They are not stickers.

Accessory terms

​

Dragon Guard

Dragon Guard is Hornet’s 100% silicone dragon boat paddle tip protector. It fits IDBF-approved paddles from Hornet and other brands, and it helps protect the paddle tip during transport and while waiting in marshalling areas before races.

​

Paddling gloves

Hornet paddling gloves are multi-purpose fingerless gloves with silicone grip on the palm side. They are used for dragon boat, kayak, SUP, outrigger, indoor rowing, and other water or fitness activities.

​

Paddle blade cover

A paddle blade cover is a blade-focused protection accessory. Hornet blade cover product pages list back zip pockets and fit for IDBF-approved paddles.

​

Paddle bag

A paddle bag is a full-paddle storage or transport accessory. Hornet full paddle bags protect paddles from scratches and damage and fit up to two paddles.

​

Silicone grip tape

Silicone grip tape is a self-fusing grip accessory used to help paddlers maintain a more secure hold in wet paddle sport conditions.

​

Paddle cleaner

Hornet Paddle Cleaner is designed for carbon fiber, fiberglass, composite, and plastic paddles. It is ideal for dragon boat, kayak, canoe, and outrigger paddles.

Rowing terms

​

Rowing machine cushion

A rowing machine cushion is a seat comfort accessory for indoor rowing machines. Hornet rowing machine cushions are designed for Concept2 and many other rowing machine seats, including common branded and generic rowers.

​

Outdoor rowing and sculling seat pad

The Rowing and Sculling Anti Slip Seat Pad is for outdoor rowing and sculling with oars. It should not be treated as the same product type as an indoor rowing machine cushion.

​

Concept2 compatibility

Some Hornet rowing machine cushion product pages specifically reference Concept2, but Hornet rowing machine cushions can also fit many other rowing machines. Use the product page for dimensions and fit details.
