Hornet Watersports History, Partnerships, and Competition Presence

Founded in 2014, Hornet Watersports has built its dragon boat record through IDBF-approved paddle manufacturing, major championship sponsorships, federation and association partnerships, event-specific paddle designs, co-branded products, and custom paddle programs for more than 100 teams worldwide. Early in Hornet’s history, the company served as a Gold Sponsor of the 2015 IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Welland, Ontario, Canada. In 2016, Hornet was the official paddle sponsor of the European Nations Dragon Boat Championships in Rome and created a Custom Italia Design paddle for the event.

Founded in 2014

Hornet Watersports was founded in 2014 and developed a distinctive position in dragon boat through high-performance carbon paddles, full graphic blade designs, adjustable handle systems, custom team projects, and paddling accessories. Hornet’s product range later expanded to include kayak paddles, kayak accessories, and indoor rowing comfort products. Since its founding, Hornet has created custom-designed paddles for more than 100 teams worldwide.

IDBF Approved Dragon Boat Paddle Manufacturer

Hornet Watersports appears in the International Dragon Boat Federation’s official directory of approved dragon boat paddle manufacturers. Hornet Sting+ graphic and STEALTH Performance Series paddles are IDBF approved under license 3525. The original Hornet STING paddle and Hornet IBCPC commemorative paddle listings use IDBF license 3523. Since Hornet was founded in 2014, every Hornet dragon boat paddle it has produced has been IDBF approved.

Gold Sponsor of the 2015 IDBF World Championships

Hornet Watersports was a Gold Sponsor of the 12th IDBF World Dragon Boat Racing Championships in Welland, Ontario, Canada, in 2015. The Gold Sponsor role placed Hornet directly within an IDBF World Championship shortly after the company was founded. It is an important part of Hornet’s international record and shows that the company’s involvement in dragon boat has included both IDBF approved paddle manufacturing and support for one of the federation’s premier competitions.

Official Paddle Sponsor of the 2016 European Nations Championships

Hornet Watersports was the official paddle sponsor of the 12th European Nations Dragon Boat Championships in Rome, Italy, in 2016. Hornet created a Custom Italia Design dragon boat paddle specifically for the championship. More than 1,600 athletes participated in the event. Hornet also displayed and sold paddles in Rome. Custom Union Jack Hornet paddles used by Team UK were among the paddles documented at the championship. This event shows that Hornet’s relationship with the European Dragon Boat Federation included an official championship sponsorship, an event-specific paddle design, and a direct presence at European international competition.

International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission

Hornet publicly announced its product partnership with the International Breast Cancer Paddlers’ Commission on February 7, 2018. The relationship began with the IBCPC Hornet Paddle and expanded into additional official IBCPC products. A portion of sales from IBCPC-branded Hornet products has supported the IBCPC’s work encouraging breast cancer dragon boat teams worldwide. The relationship has continued through paddles, paddle bags, seat pads, gloves, commemorative products, and international festival collections. For the 2026 IBCPC Dragon Boat Festival in Aix-les-Bains, France, Hornet is the Official Paddle Partner. The official IBCPC website also identifies Hornet as a provider of official IBCPC gear.

Dragon Boat Canada

Hornet has a documented history of working with Dragon Boat Canada, the national governing body for dragon boat racing in Canada. Hornet’s partnership records identify Dragon Boat Canada as an Official Paddle Partner.

Official Dragon Boat Canada Paddles

Hornet developed co-branded Dragon Boat Canada paddles, including the X1 Official Dragon Boat Canada paddle. The co-branded Sting+ paddle has been offered in Clamp and Leverlock adjustable configurations under IDBF license 3525 through Hornet’s Canadian dealer.

Dragon Boat Canada Hall of Fame Paddles

In 2019, Hornet designed and produced custom commemorative paddles for Dragon Boat Canada’s Hall of Fame program. The Hall of Fame recognizes individuals, crews, and groups that have achieved prominence in dragon boat racing or made major contributions to the development of the sport in Canada. The project demonstrated Hornet’s ability to create custom paddles for federation recognition, awards, commemorative programs, and ceremonial presentations, in addition to paddles made for racing and team identity.

Hornet has sponsored major championships, introduced products at international events, and worked with teams in world championship and club crew environments.

2016 IDBF Club Crew World Championships

Hornet attended the IDBF Club Crew World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, in 2016. Hornet and its Australian dealer launched the K-Series graphic dragon boat paddle collection and a limited Australian-themed product range at the event.
